In November 2004, Jo and I found out that we were going to have a baby! At the same time, Jo was diagnosed with Aplastic Anemia - a medical term that means her bone marrow was failing; it was no longer doing its job of producing white blood cells, red blood cells and platelets. On June 17th, 2005, Jo gave birth to a beautiful baby girl - Anna Claire Szymanski. Anna's health was perfect and has continued to be perfect! This Blog is dedicated to Jo’s journey along the road to recovery.

Happy Thanksgiving!
Has anybody seen a couple of Pilgrims? I have a dinner date and I don't want to be late.

Hi!
You don't know me, Tim, and I am not a "blogger" - but - on occasion I do google people who competed with me in the 1987 Miss America pageant. I don't know what got me thinking about Jo - except - perhaps that I was trying to find bright spots in that overwhelming time and Jo was one of them. I was green as grass to pageants - yet - Jo and some others, rather than taking advantage of it, actually tried to help me. Five years later when we were both in AC we got to hang out a little and she was still the darling to me.
Needless to say your commentary on Jo's health has brought me to tears. She is still gorgeous and appears to have had a wonderful career that touched many people's lives. I am a Christian and have tremendous faith - but times like these so make me wonder ... why someone like Jo - a vibrant personality?
In any event, I was hoping you would let her know that I am thinking of her and praying for all of you. Also - please let her know she is still an inspiration and a motivator. If we get the chance to chat online, I'll fill her in more, but for this e-mail, my objective was to let her know that nearly 20 years later, she still is thought of in a very fond way. And, don't blame the meds if she doesn't remember me - ha ha ha! Green as grass and from Delaware, no less. I wasn't really a stand out ... but she was and still is.
I can't imagine the first Pilgrim princess being as adorable as your little Anna. All of her holiday outfits have been absolutely adorable. They must be part of Mommys creative skills.
