Jo's bone marrow biopsy results are back and the news is a bit confusing. One of the tests indicates that the cellularity of her bone marrow is at 25% of normal, compared to earlier test that showed 5% of normal. That sounds like great news, right? However, there are two other tests that showed 5% and "suboptimal" respectively. Then there is Dr. Anderlini in Houston who warned us not to get too excited about an increase in the cellularity since Jo's blood counts are still no where close to what they should be.
On the other hand, there is Dr. Alvarez here in Denver. He thinks that these results are a very good sign and he is greatly encouraged. The one thing that everyone agrees on is that it is time to start some form of treatment.
We are trying to schedule one more trip to the NIH - maybe next week. We know Dr. Sloand wants to see us out there, but getting past the scheduling pit bulls is a bit of challenge. They just want to make sure that Dr. Sloand has an opportunity to see all of the data before getting us to commit to a trip to Maryland.
We will be moving to our new house (sans stairs) here in Denver on January 28th. Please email me at TimSzymanski@comcast.net if you are able to help us with the "Extreme Makeover - Moving Edition". Our goal is to have everything moved and put away in 1 day. Our motive is to eliminate any temptation for Jo to lift anything that she shouldn't be lifting and thus endangering her fragile hips.

Dear Jo
I had the immune suppressant treatment as at the time no bone marrow donnor was available. I believe they used the serum taken from horse blood. It was transfused into me over two or three days.It made me feel really poorley but there was no major reaction to it.A few weeks after they found a bone marrow donor. We did n't go through with the transplant as by that time my own bone marrow was showing signs of recovery. After that I gradually made a full recovery coming off all medication after about two years. That was 13 years ago. I was 31 when the AA struck. If you have a transplant you may wish to ask your doctors whether you will have to continue with anti rejection drugs. So many break throughs these days this may not now be the case.My thoughts are with you.Good luck on which ever decision you decide on.

I have no medical expertise to give you. I wish I did. I just know in my heart that you will make the right decision. After all, you chose each other!
On a lighter note, though. GO STEELERS!!!

Hi Jo
I don't know if you will remember me but you ran an all day social for us in Winsford, Cheshire about 4 years ago ( It was Magic Carpet Ride time).
I sat with Joanne Brady at the Linedancer Crystal Boot Awards last Saturday & she told me how ill you have been.
I mentioned in class on tuesday that you had AA and one of our dancers came to tell me that she had it 15 years ago and was cured by a bone marrow transplant. She only has check-ups twice a year but wanted me to tell you that she is now fit and well.
Take Care
Love and best wishes
