In November 2004, Jo and I found out that we were going to have a baby! At the same time, Jo was diagnosed with Aplastic Anemia - a medical term that means her bone marrow was failing; it was no longer doing its job of producing white blood cells, red blood cells and platelets. On June 17th, 2005, Jo gave birth to a beautiful baby girl - Anna Claire Szymanski. Anna's health was perfect and has continued to be perfect! This Blog is dedicated to Jo’s journey along the road to recovery.

Throw Me a Bone
Jo got a call from Dr. Kelly's office yesterday letting us know that a bone has been located for her left shoulder partial bone transplant. We will get confirmation on Monday whether it's a "clean" bone that passes all the tests and if so, they will do surgery next Friday the 29th. I hope there isn't anything superstitious about having surgery on February 29th!

Hi Tim & Jo,
Don't worry about Feb 29th. Eight years ago on that date I had three stents implanted in my heart after a heart attack. I have been fine since. My only regret is that I can celebrate that momentus occasion officially only once every four years.
Since Feb 29th is a rare occurance - I would guess it makes anything that happens on that date SPECIAL! So any superstitions about that day are probably ALL LUCKY!!!
rms ;)
Given Jo's consistent positive outlook (and her results to date - heaven knows!), she's certainly entitled to a great outcome. I would only hope that the implant comes from a person who was a previous dancer vs. some other sport. I've heard that the traits/likes & dislikes of the donor may come with the transplant - we wouldn't want to see Jo suddenly give up dancing for cage fighting or surfing or ???
You both are once again an example of the love we all seek to have.
Best of luck on Friday -
Paula and John Taylor
I'm glad there isn't such a long wait for shoulder bones. Most all athletes can dance as we have seen on "Dancing With The Stars". You were so agile on 2/23, it's hard to realize all you have gone thru and came out with the "Crystal Boot" Loving thoughts and prayers, jam
Hi to HOUSE...
Well my dear Jo, you are certainly on quite a journey, we are sincerely happy that you appear to have a donor and your surgery is tomorrow. We will keep you in our prayers and are confident you will do well. Thanks once again for your beautiful example. Much love, Deb & Jeff
